The Detective Bureau investigates complaints that are taken by Sheriff's deputies. The detective is responsible to collect and analyze evidence, interview victims, witnesses and potential suspects. They conduct surveillance, reconstruct crime scenes, obtain search warrants and work closely with the Prosecutor's Office. They are responsible for investigating all crimes committed with the jurisdiction of the Hillsdale County including:

- Criminal Sexual Conduct
- Stolen Vehicles
- Larcenies
- Breaking & Entering
- Armed Robbery
- Assault
- Drugs
- Homicides/Death Investigations
